Wrexham University Overview
Located in the northeast of Wales, Wrexham University is a public university having campuses in Wrexham, Northop, and St Asaph. It provides professional courses, undergraduate and graduate degrees, and both. In 2019–20, the university has 6,045 students enrolled.
The Wrexham School of Science and Art (WSSA), founded in 1887, was the university’s first antecedent. Following multiple mergers, WSSA became the North East Wales Institute of Higher Education (NEWI) in 1975.
In 2004, the institute joined the University of Wales as a full member. After being awarded full university status in 2008, it was renamed Glyndŵr University (Prifysgol Glyndŵr) in honor of Owain Glyndŵr, a Welsh leader from the fifteenth century who was born not far from Wrexham and proposed the creation of universities in Wales.
